They are a part of the popular culture of Spanish-speaking countries, so Spanish learners should be aware of them. These jokes also can be good listening comprehension practice and also speaking practice if kids learn to tell them.

Pepito jokes feature a little boy who offers silly or impertinent answers to questions from his parents or teachers. In some countries the jokes are about Jaimito or Benito rather than Pepito, but the idea is the same. However, not all Pepito jokes are appropriate for kids! Like all kinds of humor, some jokes about Pepito are in bad taste. You have to be selective, as you do with all content you share with children.
Pepito Jokes and Spanish Learners
- If your students or children are new to the concept of Pepito jokes, introduce the character explaining that he is a mischievous child. You can teach the word travieso.
- Pepito jokes are in the form of short dialogs, so they are easy to understand. Also, once students know a joke, they can act out the dialog.
- Many Pepito jokes have to do with school, so they will have vocabulary related to school subjects like math and history. Other Pepito jokes center around interactions with his family.
- Often Pepito jokes have some word play. For example, Pepito answers a question by changing the context. In other words, he interprets a question differently than the teacher or his parent intends. Other Pepito jokes are just silly.

Su mamá le pregunta a Pepito:

-Más grande.
Pepito compró unos caramelos y se los comió todos en un minuto.
Su hermana se enojó y le dijo:
-¡Te comiste todos los caramelos sin acordarte de mí!
-¡Claro que me acordé de ti! Por eso me los comí tan deprisa.
Pepito llega a casa después de las clases. Está muy feliz y le dice a su mamá:
– Mamá, mamá, ¡aprendí a escribir!.
Su mamá le dice:
– ¿Y qué escribiste?.
Pepito responde:
¿Cómo voy a saberlo, si todavía no he aprendido a leer?
Llega Pepito a la casa gritando:
– Mami, mami, no me esperes esta noche.

Pepito le pregunta a su maestra:
